Surface Control is the company set-up by TBBplc and inventor Mark Collins to manage the development of his invention, the 'SlipGuardian'. This is a floor surface quality measuring device which can identify dangerous floors and help to improve safety in public areas. The UK Health and Safety Executive estimates that the cost in treatment and lost productivity caused by slips and trips is over £600million every year. Applications for the SlipGuardian include floor management at airports, shopping centres, supermarkets, leisure centres and industrial premises.
EEDA & Proof of Concept Funding - the very successful funding programme from EEDA is designed to help entrepreneurs from all backgrounds undertake market assessments and help identify potential routes-to-market for their ideas. The fund is available to any individual, small business or academic / research organisation (located in Eastern England) that has developed a concept which needs finance for market assessment prior to launch. In 2006, EEDA allocated £1.2m in proof-of-concept funding to businesses in the region.
Mark Aspinall, Head of Enterprise and Innovation at EEDA, said: 'Altogether 50 companies across the region have been successful in receiving grants of between £5,000 and £40,000. Now these companies can take the next step forward and hopefully see their dreams become a reality. At EEDA we have a number of initiatives to help new businesses start-up and grow. This funding is just one way to help those who have an innovative idea to get it to market.'
